Application Guidelines

To start the application process, please register here using our online form. It will only take one minute. Upon completion, you’ll receive an automated email containing further instructions and an upload link for your application file. (If you don’t find the email in your inbox, please look for it in the spam/junk folder or contact us: esu-ct.conference[at]ubbcluj.ro.) – Adherence to the provided guidelines is imperative.

When applying, candidates should upload one single PDF file named “ESUDH2024_application” containing a detailed curriculum vitae (Europass format works best) and a letter of motivation (500-700 words). In their motivation letter applicants should a) indicate their research interests, b) specify the workshop(s) of their choice, c) justify their choice by explaining their hopes and expectations, and d) declare that an allocated place will be taken up.

Choosing your Workshop

In your application file, you are expected to specify the workshops you would like to attend. Please also nominate a backup choice in case your first choice workshop is already full. The number of participants for each workshop is limited to 10. When allocating a place to a specific workshop, not only the preferences expressed by the applicants will be taken into account, but also the feedback and advice given by the instructors on the basis of the motivation letter. However, the final enrollment will be discussed with every participant.

When choosing your workshops, please note that most of the workshops run for two full weeks, but are generally structured in two weekly blocks. Other workshops are one-week only: one runs only in the second week, and one runs once in the first and again in the second week. Most participants will want to take full advantage of an intensive training in one topic, while others might want to try two different topics during the summer school by choosing a block from a two-week workshop or a one-week workshop for the first week, and a one-week workshop for the second week. In justified cases, it might also be possible to opt for the second block of a two-week workshop, but only after discussing this with the organizers. Please read the descriptions of the workshops carefully when making your choices.

Project & Poster Presentations

Applicants who would like to present a project during one of the project presentation sessions or during the poster session should include in their PDF file a section with the description of the project (500-700 words) in English when they apply online for a place at the Summer University. The presentation of a project is not a prerequisite for a successful application.

Varia

As the selection of participants is made by the organizers together with the international experts who lead the workshops, the CV and the letter of motivation is to be presented in English. As the Summer University is supposed to be multilingual the curriculum vitae needs to contain information about the knowledge of languages.

Preference will be given to students and scholars of the Humanities and Social Sciences who are planning, or are already involved with, a technology-based research project  and describe this project in a qualified way in their motivation letter.

Students and scholars of Engineering and Computer Sciences are expected to describe their specialities and interests in such a way that also non specialists can follow, and to support their expectations from the summer university with good arguments.
